Preparations for a nationwide economic survey have been completed. The National Statistics Office informed that enumerators and supervisors have already reached their respective areas for the survey.

The economic census will begin on April 15. As per the schedule, field data collection will be completed by June 21. Nearly 5,000 personnel have been mobilised for the enumeration.

Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle has urged all industrial entities, enterprises, and concerned individuals to actively participate in the economic census. He said that data collection on economic and industrial sectors is crucial for national planning and policy-making.

Basic information on 18 sectors of the economy will be collected during the survey. This includes details such as the number of industries, enterprises, service providers, cooperatives, and both private and public entities, along with their types, employment, production, and service delivery.

All business entities—large and small, registered and unregistered—will be enumerated, and employment data will be recorded. Non-governmental organisations, public corporations, as well as government and private schools and hospitals will also be included in the survey.

Offices were established in all 77 districts in the third week of March for the survey. Later, seven additional offices were set up. These facilities will remain operational until mid-July.

The National Statistics Office has urged everyone to cooperate with the government’s initiative to collect accurate and essential data. The last such survey was conducted seven years ago, which showed that Nepal had over 923,000 institutions and industrial entities.
