Prakash Man Singh says Congress’ awareness drive failed to consolidate party

Nepali Congress leader Prakash Man Singh speaks with the party’s district leaders, in Kathmandu, on Monday, June 3, 2019.

Kathmandu, May 3

Influential leader of the Nepali Congress party, Prakash Man Singh, says a national awareness campaign the party launched in a bid to revive the party’s strength and warn the government against wrongdoings has apparently failed.

Singh’s statement comes one week before the scheduled wrapping up of the first phase of the drive which the party will carry out in three phases.

Speaking with district leaders of the party at his residence in Chaksibari of Kathmandu on Monday morning, Singh, an outspoken opponent of party president Sher Bahadur Deuba, said the campaign failed as the party did not have a structure as per the new federal model.

He added that the failure made all supporters of the party and democrats in general hopeless.

In another context, he said the party leadership was running the party to meet vested interests of people, ignoring principles and policies.
