Prakash Chandra Lohani announces candidacy for RPP presidency

Kathmandu, February 17

Rastriya Prajatantra Party’s national president Prakash Chandra Lohani on Friday announced his candidature for the position of party chief.

Lohani’s  made this announcement coinciding with the unity convention of the party that started on Friday.

On the eve of the convention, top four leaders of the party had agreed on making the incumbent, Kamal Thapa, the unanimous party president. However, a day later, Lohani backtracked from the understanding, expressing dissatisfaction in matters related to the party’s election symbol and balance of power.

Lohani said: We reached an understanding assuring to make the Plough the election symbol. But then started efforts to move ahead unilaterally by ignoring the election symbol and balance of power. As per the current party statute, cadres will have to be mere musclemen of some leader.

Lohani demanded that half of the party’s office-bearers should be elected. But the statute envisages nominating all office-bearers save the president.

Referring to the ‘unification of the RPP and RPP-Nepal, Lohani said: This is looking like a merger, but we won’t let it that way.

The two parties had become one a month ago, giving birth to the unified RPP.
