Prachanda’s China visit: Not signing any agreement, says Mahat

Kathmandu, March 22

Foreign Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat says the government does not plan to sign any new agreement with Beijing during Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s visit to China, which starts tomorrow.

According to Mahat, the Nepali delegation was ready to sign ‘few’ agreements during the visit, but it had to be called off because of technical difficulties. “We were ready with 4-5 agreements, but now we see that none of them will be signed,” Mahat told mediapersons on the eve of his visit to China. Prachanda’s Chinese counterpart Li Kaqiang will be on a  visit to New Zealand during the duration of the Nepali Prime Minister’s visit.

Mahat said Nepal wanted to sign agreements related to investment and cross-border economic zone among others. Both governments have also talked about China’s One Belt One Road Project.

The Prime Minister will be accompanied by his wife Sita, and Foreign Minister Mahat, among others.
