FNJ-PM-Meet

Kathmandu, August 9

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ said on Tuesday he is actively involved in bids to make Nepal prosperous by maintaining unity between different political parties. He appealed journalists to help parties maintain national unity.

Prachanda said this during a meeting with a team of the Federation of Nepali Journalists at PM’s official residence in Baluwatar.

He said: Parties should forge national consensus for the resolution of major national problems. And journalists should help parties build understanding.

‘I had to lead the government for the sake of national unity and for implementation of the new Constitution’

I had to lead the government for the sake of national unity and for the implementation of the new Constitution, Prachanda said, adding that he was working towards strengthening national unity.

He pointed that creation of an enabling environment for the implementation of the Charter is the need of the hour.

The peace process is also nearing completion, Prachanda said. He added: What type of (conflict-era) cases need a reconciliatory approach? And for what type of cases should we seek legal remedies? We are currently discussing the matter.

On the occasion, FNJ President Mahendra Bista wished the newly-elected PM a successful tenure. Bista then asked Prachanda to do the needful for implementation of provisions on minimum salary for journalists, apart from introducing new acts, laws and infrastructure required to implement the new communications policy.

On his part, Prachanda said he was positive towards the journalists’ demands.

On Tuesday itself, a team of office-bearers from Media Society called on Prachanda. The team told Prachanda that there were complexities in implementation of the newly-introduced provision on minimum salary for journalists.
