Police raid Soaltee casino, arrest six Nepalis for gambling

Kathmandu, April 18

Police on Tuesday night carried a raid at Casino Majhong at Hotel Soaltee Crown Plaza in Kathmandu upon receiving a complaint that Nepalis were gambling there. They arrested eight persons from the scene.

Nepal’s law prohibits Nepalis from gambling though foreigners can go to casinos here.

Therefore, upon receiving a tip-off that Nepalis were gambling there, the Metropolitan Police Range had mobilised a team for the raid last night.

During the raid, six Nepali clients and two officials of the company–Managing Director Binod Shrestha and Executive Officer Om Karmacharya–were arrested, according to DSP Mohan Kumar Thapa, spokesperson of the range.

Further investigation is underway.
