Police have raided homes in Shivaraj Municipality in Kapilvastu, the home town of the breakaway Maoist group leader Netra Bikram Chand aka Biplav.
According to locals, police initiated a search operation early Thursday morning after they received reports that a cache of illegal weapons was stored in the area.
When police personnel raided the house of Durga Bahadur Roka’s house, the Maoist leader attempted to flee. He was shot in the leg and has been arrested. He is currently receiving treatment at Lumbini Zonal Hospital in Butwal.
Police Inspector Maheswar Upadhya informed that one SMG rifle and three magazines, one Chinese pistol and two magazines and two remote control devices, electric cables and materials used in making explosives were seized from Roka’s house.
When police tried to raid Chand’s nephew, Yavad Chand’s home, the local people did not allow officials to do so.
