Police arrest corruption-convicted former lawmaker

File: Dol Bahadur (DB) Karki

Kathmandu, September 5

Police on Thursday arrested former lawmaker Dol Bahadur (aka DB) Karki, who was on the run after being convicted of corruption.

Police arrested him in Sukedhara of Kathmandu and presented to the Kathmandu District Court for the execution of the verdict, informs Nepal Police assistant spokesperson Umesh Raj Joshi.

The Special Court had convicted him of defrauding citizens assuring them of police inspector job around nine years ago. He was arrested red-handed then.

The court had handed down him a six-month jail sentence and Rs 100,000 fine. Dissatisfied with the verdict, he had filed an appeal to the Supreme Court, but the apex court also upheld the Special Court’s decision.

Karki was a member of the 2008 Constituent Assembly representing the then CPN-UML, which later transformed itself into the Nepal Communist Party after a merger with the then CPN-Maoist Centre.
