Pokhara, January 10

Police in Pokhara have arrested the chairman of one of the wards of the Pokhara metropolitan city for making a discriminatory slander on a member of the ward committee.

Bharat Bahadur Adhikari, the chairman of the city’s ward 25, has been arrested on Tuesday based on a complaint filed by ward member Maiya Nepali against him on Sunday, informs Inspector Gyan Bahadur Khadka of the Kaski District Police Office.

Nepali, a member of the Dalit community, claims in the complaint that chairman Adhikari made the slander during a meeting on January 2.

A source informs this was not the first time that Adhikari was accused of slander. Once, a complaint was filed at the deputy mayor’s office, but Deputy Mayor Manju Gurung told them to settle the issue in an understanding.

Inspector Khadka says Adhikari is being presented before the District Court to seek remand for keeping him in custody for further investigation.
