Controversial issues such as the Kathmandu-Terai Fast-track is not on the agenda for Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s visit to New Delhi later this month, sources close to the PM say.

The news comes as government functionaries and the ruling alliance works on the agenda of the visit, scheduled to begin on September 15.

“During the visit, the Prime Minister will focus on improving ties with India, ” a source told Onlinekhabar. “We don’t want to bring up any contentious issues,” the source said. “This is just going to be a goodwill visit.”

The Kathmandu-Terai Fast-track project courted controversy when the Sushil Koirala government ‘attempted’ to award its contract to an Indian company. Koirala’s successor KP Oli formally decided to construct the national pride project mobilising domestic resources.

Prime Minister Prachanda has been maintaining that his government wants to construct the highway making use of domestic resources.

Prachanda and his counterpart Modi are also likely to discuss the possibility of increasing Indian aid for post-quake reconstruction in Nepal.
