Oli snubs House meeting on inclusiveness of constitutional appointments

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has failed to show up in a Parliamentary Hearing Committee meeting on Thursday.

Kathmandu, November 26

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has failed to show up in a Parliamentary Hearing Committee meeting on Thursday.

The committee had called PM Oli to discuss why the Constitutional Council under his leadership failed to make nominations for constitutional body officials inclusive.

The chairperson of the committee, Laxman Lal Karna, says that the committee has decided to call PM Oli again for another meeting to discuss the same. The dates, however, are yet to be finalised.

Meanwhile, the committee has directed the government to appoint officials for the constitutional bodies as soon as possible.

Constitutional bodies like the National Human Rights Commission, and National Woman Commission are without officials currently whereas various posts in the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority, and Election Commission are also vacant.

In the meeting, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, blamed the lack of attendance in Constitutional Council meetings for the failure to appoint officials.
