No protests near CIAA office, Kathmandu District administration orders

Akhtiyar-1

Kathmandu, August 12

Kathmandu’s District Administration Office has declared areas surrounding the office of Nepal’s anti-corruption body CIAA as ‘no-protest’ zone.

The order, which comes into effect from Friday, does not specifically mention ‘CIAA’ but says the move was aimed at bolstering security in  a part of town that houses important security establishments.

The move comes as activists demand that the CIAA chief Lokman Singh Karki be impeached by Parliament for allegedly being involved in corruption related to medical colleges.

Activists have in the past taken to the streets against Karki, and were planning protest meets near the CIAA office in the future.
