Govt not to release funds for 2,000+ local roads that Oli govt had planned

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli remotely lays foundation stones for 165 new roads from Kathmandu, on Saturday, April 3, 2021.

Kathmandu, September 3

The government has decided not to release funds for over 2,000 local road projects across the country although they were included in different plans during the premiership of KP Sharma Oli.

The Ministry of Finance decided to not give the funds citing they were including in the plans earlier without securing resources for them. These roads also include 165 new road projects, one each in a House of Representatives constituency, that Oli himself had laid foundation stones for, in early April.

Finance Minister Janardan Sharma decided to halt all these projects citing they should be re-prioritised now, informs a source in the Ministry of Finance.

The Department of Roads spokesperson Shiva Prasad Nepal says the department has already been informed of the decision.

In addition, the department has been told to reprioritise the projects and submit a new plan, according to him.
