Kathmandu, Agust 16

The ward 22 committee of the Kathmandu metropolitan city has decided to shut all shops in New Road, a major trade hub in the capital, this Monday and Tuesday.

The ward chair Chini Kaji Maharjan says the shops will be closed to give time for the shopkeepers to meet standards set by the World Health Organisation in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak. Once they make sure they are on a par with the global standards, the shops will reopen on Wednesday, according to him.

According to the standards, the shopkeepers and their customers need to use masks and sanitiser mandatorily whereas sufficient physical distance is made at the shops.

So far, seven cases of coronavirus infection have been recorded in Khichapokhari, Guchcha Tole, and Otu areas.

Meanwhile, preparations are underway to test the traders for coronavirus, according to the ward chair. “So far, there is not any case of a trader being infected, But, prevention is better.” Likewise, handwash stations will be installed at various places.
