Nepal’s Maoists threat to Koshi Barrage, says confidential Indian circular

Kathmandu, July 26

The Indian administration considers Nepal’s Maoists as a potential threat to the security of the Koshi Barrage, a confidential governmental circular says.

The circular sent to Birpur District by Supaul District says Nepal’s Maoists, along with Muslim extremist groups, pose threat to the barrage, the circular obtained by Onlinekhabar reveals.

The circular also says that activities of Nepal Police should also be monitored closely.

Onlinekhabar has also obtained an ‘order’ sent by the Birpur District to Nepal’s local police in Sunsari.

Although protocol dictates that the matter be discussed through diplomatic channels, the administration, in a separate circular, has ‘ordered’ the Sunsari District administration to pay special attention to the security of the Barrage.

However, the document does not mention Maoists as threat to the barrage, it only lists Muslim extremist organisations.
