Kathmandu, September 21

Nepal’s Ambassador to Qatar, Narad Bharadwaj, has demanded that the government carry out four flights per day from Qatar to Nepal to repatriate Nepali workers stranded due to Covid-19.

Participating in a meeting of the Industry, Commerce, Labour, and Consumer Interest Committee in the House of Representatives virtually from Doha, Bharadwaj said conducting chartered flights only would not be sufficient for Nepalis waiting to come back home.

Currently, regular flights between Kathmandu and Doha are not in operation. But, the ambassador said around 16,000 Nepalis were waiting to return home, fearing the number would increase as big festivals of Nepal are coming closer.

He informed lawmakers that 6,778 Nepalis had been repatriated from Qatar to Nepal amid the Covid-19 crisis so far.
