Kathmandu, April 23

A Nepali national has also died in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, India.

According to Dainik Bhaskar, the attack targeted tourists and killed 27 people, including one Nepali, one UAE national, and two locals. The list of the deceased includes the name Sandip Neupane, with Nepal mentioned as his country.

Below his name, another individual named “Bitan Adhikari” is also listed. Since the surname “Adhikari” is common in Nepal, some have reported that two Nepalis were killed. However, the country of Adhikari has not been specified. Thus, so far, the death of only one Nepali has been confirmed.

No official statement has yet been released by Nepal’s government agencies regarding the incident.

The attack was carried out specifically targeting tourists at a place called Baisaran in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Baisaran lies about 6 kilometers from Pahalgam.

According to Indian media, Baisaran is often referred to as the “Mini Switzerland” because of its scenic beauty and is a popular tourist destination.

The tourists visiting the area were shot and killed on Tuesday. Dainik Bhaskar reported that the terrorists took control of the site, asked the names of the tourists, and then selectively shot and killed them. Among those killed were citizens of Nepal and the UAE, along with people from Indian states including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Odisha.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently on a visit to Saudi Arabia. After receiving news of the terrorist attack on tourists, The Hindu reported that he is shortening his trip short to return home.
