Nepali Congress youth wing: President scraps general secretary’s decision

L-R: Jit Jung Basnet and Bhupendra Jung Shahi

Kathmandu, September 11

The internal rift in the Nepali Congress youth wing, Nepal Tarun Dal, has resurfaced as its president recently scrapped a decision taken by the general secretary.

As the executive committee under the leadership of Jit Jung Basnet is about to complete its three-year term, the conflict between Basnet and the committee’s general secretary Bhupendra Jung Shahi has got intensified. Shahi had recently lifted the action taken against the organisation’s Sindhupalchok district leader Sagun Shrestha and appointed Sita Prasad Yadav as the Saptari district president.

However, Basnet on Wednesday announced that both the decisions were invalid.

“Decisions made by general secretary Shahi against his roles and responsibilities are not accepted,” Basnet said in a statement today, “Further, Shahi is warned against ‘indecent’ behaviours and activities via this notice.”

Whereas Basnet is close to the mother party’s president Sher Bahadur Deuba, Shahi is a supporter of the senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel.
