Nepali Congress youth wing completes term before forming executive committee

Kathmandu, November 19

The main opposition Nepali Congress party’s youth wing, Nepal Tarun Dal, completed the three-year term of its executive committee on Sunday. Surprisingly, the committee did not get its full shape in these three years.

On November 17, 2016, the party leadership had appointed Jit Jung Basnet, Uttam Chapagain, Bhupendra Jung Shahi and Bidwan Gurung as president, vice-president, general secretary and treasurer of the youth wing respectively. Top party leaders including Sher Bahadur Deuba, Ram Chandra Paudel and Krishna Prasad Sitaula had shared the key positions among leaders close to themselves.

The organisation’s statute has it that the executive committee has 99 members. But, no other members except the four officials got appointed in the past three years.

Meanwhile, president Basnet claims his term will expire only after six months as the statute allows one-time extension for six months. He hopes the party will make a decision about it soon.

He says the organisation will hold its next convention to elect the new leadership in the next five months.
