Nepali Congress statute amendment: District chiefs against naming loser ‘senior leader’

A meeting of Nepali Congress district presidents, in Kakani of Nuwakot, in November 2018.

Kathmandu, November 29

District presidents of the main opposition party Nepali Congress have demanded that the party scrap the provision of giving the title of ‘senior leader’ to anyone who loses elections for the party presidency.

Whereas the party is preparing for the mahasamiti meeting, scheduled for mid-December, in order to amend its statute, a meeting of the district chiefs held in Kakani of Nuwakot forwarded the suggestion.

The two-day meeting concluded this afternoon.

Meanwhile, the leaders demanded that the party add the number of officials in the Central Working Committee and ensure at least 33 per cent participation of women at all levels and in all committees of the party.

It has been learned that the leaders will hand over their suggestions to the central leadership of the party on Thursday itself.
