The main opposition party Nepali Congress on Monday expelled 23 leaders and cadres from three districts of the country after concluding that they worked against the party during the local level elections held in 2017.

Those expelled include 20 from Solukhumbu district of Province 1, two from Rautahat of Province 2 and one from Dailekh of Karnali, according to the party’s central discipline committee chief Bhishma Raj Angdembe.

Those filing candidacy on behalf of other parties and independently, those proposing and seconding their candidacy and those campaigning for someone else except the official candidates have been expelled, according to the party.

Meanwhile, the committee has warned that it will also take similar action against those working against the party’s official candidates during provincial and federal parliamentary elections held in the same year.
