Nepali Congress: Deuba consulting Paudel, Koirala about next steps

Kathmandu, January 2

Top leaders of Nepali Congress are holding an internal meeting this afternoon to discuss next steps of the party after it faced a humiliating defeat in recent parliamentary polls.

The party had organised its Central Executive Committee meeting last week, but it did not discuss the issue as the party was under the pressure to finalise the list of provincial lawmakers under the proportional representation category.

Therefore, Prime Minister and party President Sher Bahadur Deuba has invited senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel and General Secretary Shashanka Koirala among others to his official residence in Baluwatar for a discussion on the party’s next strategies today, informs Deuba’s personal secretary Bhanu Deuba.

It is expected that the leaders will discuss leaving the government and impacts of the left alliance on Congress’ future.

Meanwhile, the left alliance-constituent CPN-Maoist Centre has also called its headquarters meeting today to discuss contemporary political situations.
