Kathmandu, June 13

The main opposition Nepali Congress has claimed that more than 31,000 new members joined the party during its month long national awareness campaign concluded recently. Most of them defected the ruling Nepal Communist Party, it adds.

The party says it found that people’s attraction to the party is increasing whereas the trust in the government is declining.

Organising a press conference in Kathmandu on Thursday, the party’s spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma informed that the party organised around 2,000 functions and events at various levels during the campaigning.

Meanwhile, he claimed that party would launch its second phase soon. However, the party’s sister organisations including Nepal Students Union and Nepal Tarun Dal would be revived after that, according to him.

Sharma said party president Sher Bahadur Deuba would call a Central Working Committee meeting after around three weeks to review the campaign and begin preparations for the next phase.
