The Central Election Committee of the Nepali Congress has introduced a code of conduct for its 15th General Convention.
Committee member-secretary Raju Katuwal said in a statement on Friday that the committee had decided to enforce the code of conduct for candidates contesting the general convention.
“The Central Election Committee has decided to introduce additional and stricter provisions, along with the existing provisions of the election code of conduct, for aspirants and candidates contesting various posts in the general convention,” the statement said.
According to Katuwal, flamboyant and ostentatious campaigning will be completely prohibited. He said all forms of extravagant campaign activities have been banned to ensure that the general convention is conducted in a dignified, economical and disciplined manner while respecting the situation following the disaster.
The committee has completely banned printed and physical campaign materials. It said candidates will not be allowed to place, paste or distribute flexes, banners, posters, pamphlets or any other printed campaign materials at or around the general convention venue.
Similarly, campaigning outside the convention venue will not be allowed. The committee has strictly prohibited the placement or display of any type of physical campaign material in the outer premises of the convention venue, public roads or surrounding areas.
Katuwal said only digital and technology-based campaigning would be permitted. Candidates will be allowed to communicate their agendas and details of their candidacies only through digital means, including social media, online platforms and other electronic media.
