Nepalgunj Airport shuts operation of hilly chartered flights as private companies fleece passengers

Nepalgunj, May 24

The operation of chartered flights from Nepalgunj to hilly areas of provinces 5,6, and 7 has been closed from Thursday.

Chief of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal’s Nepalgunj office, Pratap Babu Tiwari, informed that the operation was shut after private airlines started charging passengers excessive prices, much more than the set amount.

The private companies have been charging more than double the set airfare, he said.

Meanwhile, the CAAN also fixed new airfare for the region.

“The new fare is a little expensive than the earlier price, but cheaper than the chartered flights,” he adds.

The operation of flights from and to the airport will resume after the companies run their services on the new tariff.

At present, Tara Air, Sita Air, Summit Air and Nepal Airlines have been providing their services from Nepalgunj.
