Nepal to establish 18 more seismological centres

Kathmandu, April 12

The government is preparing set-up 18 new seismological centres across Nepal as the country prepares to observe the second anniversary of April 2015 quake which killed more than 10,000 people and left thousands of others homeless.

Although the government has not decided where the centres will be based, the National Seismological Centre says the Chinese government has pledged support to establish 10 such centres. Similarly, Thai company Rhymes has announced support for four and the government of Japan 8.

The centres will be established by 2018. Nepal now has 21 seismological centres spread across the country.
