Kathmandu, March 23
Nepal has graduated to the status of ‘country with medium human development’, as per the United Nations’ Human Development Index (HDI).
Nepal was until now categorised under countries with low levels of human development. According to the latest UN Human Development report, Nepalis, in general, are healthier, wealthier and educated than ever before.
Nepal scored 0.558 in HDI in 2015, as against 0.548 in 2014, says the report. The score secures Nepal 144th rank in among 188 countries surveyed by the UN, the same position Nepal was in during the previous survey.
The UN’s HDI has three basic components: life expectancy at birth, mean years of schooling, and expected years of schooling and gross national income per capita.
