Nepal has made history by securing a spot in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier for the first time.
Nepal earned its place after defeating the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by 5 wickets in the Super 3 stage of the Asia Qualifier on Monday.
Chasing a target of 115 runs set by the UAE, Nepal reached the total in 19.3 overs, losing five wickets along the way. Captain Indu Barma anchored the innings with an unbeaten 34 runs to guide her team to victory.
Earlier, the UAE posted 114 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Captain Esha Oza top-scored for the UAE with 39 runs, supported by Theertha Satish (21) and Heena Hotchandani (20).
Nepal’s bowling attack was led by Manisha Upadhyay, who claimed 4 wickets for just 20 runs in her 4 overs. Kabita Kunwar took 2 wickets, while Rajmati Airee chipped in with 1.
Nepal is scheduled to play Thailand on Tuesday, but the outcome will have no bearing on Nepal’s qualification for the Global Qualifier.
