Nepal quake: Over 115 thousand houses in Kathmandu damaged beyond repair

Over 115 thousand houses were damaged beyond repair by the 2015 quake in Nepal last year, fresh data from the government shows.

A detailed count carried out by Nepal’s Central Department of Statistics shows 115,803 houses were totally damaged in the quake in Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur.

Of the damaged houses, 53,949 are in Kathmandu, 32,038 in Bhaktapur, and 30,661 in Lalitpur, says CDS, which is verifying claims made by people in the Valley ahead of the government’s plan to distribute reconstruction aid.

According to the National Reconstruction Authority, plans are afoot to start distributing reconstruction aid in Kathmandu, soon.
