Nepal needs to be in good terms with India: Xi tells Prachanda

Kathmandu, March 27

Nepal needs to be in good terms with its neigbhour India, Chinese President Xi Jinping has told Nepal’s visiting Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

During a 40-minute conversation between the two leaders, the Chinese president took up the issue of Indo-Nepal ties, Prime Minister Prachanda told Onlinekhabar. “At the end of our conversation, the President told me that Nepal needs to be in good terms with its neighbour India.”

Prime Minister Dahal, who became Prime Minister following the resignation of KP Sharma Oli, who signed more than half a dozen agreements with China last year, said China wants friendship with Nepal, regardless of the change in government. “The President himself took up the issue of the change in government in Nepal. He said that any change in government in Nepal will not have an impact on Nepal-China relations and China would continue to support Nepal,” Dahal told Onlinekhabar.

Dahal’s secretariat said Xi was eager to visit Nepal and has expressed commitment to come to Kathmandu at the earliest.
