Nepal defend SAG football gold

Kathmandu, December 10

Nepal’s U-23 team has defended its SAG Gold by beating Bhutan 2-1 in the finals of the 13th South Asian Games Men’s Football event.

With the win Nepal’s gold medal tally in the games has crossed 50. The football event was limited to five teams after India and Pakistan withdrew from the tournament.

Nepal took the lead in the match in the 17th minute with a goal from Abishek Rijal. However, Bhutan equalised in the 37th. Nepal’s Sunil Bal netted the final goal of the match to seal the game for Nepal in the second half.

During the previous edition of the tournament, Nepal beat India to win gold. Nepal, along with Pakistan, have become the most successful team in the tournament with four titles each.
