The NCP Dahal-Nepal camp stages a protest iagainst the House of Representatives dissolution, in Kathmandu, on Friday, December 25, 2020.

Kathmandu, December 25

The Dahal-Nepal faction of the Nepal Communist Party has staged a mass demonstration in Kathmandu against the government’s decision to dissolve the House of Representatives.

Top leaders of the party including two chairmen Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal, senior leaders Jhala Nath Khanal and Narayan Kaji Shrestha, the party’s central committee members, and members of the dissolved House among others gathered at Maitighar Mandala on Friday morning for the demonstration.

Members of the dissolved House and other protestors fixed a placard that reads “We are here” on their chest so as to assert their argument. They also chanted slogans claiming the dissolution was unconstitutional.

After staging a sit-in there for some minutes, the crowd marched towards the Election Commission, which will decide which faction of the NCP, split by the dissolution, is legitimate to carry the party name and election symbol.

“We have the support of the majority of the central committee members. Therefore, we are going to the commission to prove and show the world that we are the legitimate side,” a protesting leader Ghana Shyam Bhusal said.
