NCP tells govt to fill constitutional vacancies

Kathmandu, September 22

Ruling Nepal Communist Party has directed the government led by its chairman KP Sharma Oli to fill various positions vacant at several constitutional bodies.

A secretariat meeting of the party held at Prime Minister Oli’s official residence in Baluwatar made the decision on Tuesday, the party’s spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha informs after the meeting.

The meeting directed Oli to call a meeting of the Constitutional Council, a constitutional body also comprising of the main opposition leader in Parliament that nominates officials for various commissions as provisioned in the constitution.

Currently, over 40 constitutional positions are vacant as the ruling and the main opposition parties have failed to make negotiations.

Meanwhile, the secretariat also assigned its chairpersons and general secretary to prepare a proposal on completing pending tasks of the unification between the then CPN-UML and the Maoist Centre in 2018. The secretariat will discuss the proposal before implementing it.
