National Assembly member Durga Prasad Upadhyaya died on Friday morning. He was 50.
A permanent resident of Lumbini Sanskritik municipality-10 of Rupandehi district, Upadhyaya was fighting against cancer. He was elected to the Upper House on behalf of the Nepali Congress.
He was recently taken to home after treatment at Bharatpur Cancer Hospital. He breathed his last at his own house in Rupandehi at around 7 in the morning today, according to Nepali Congress lawmaker Phakharuddin Khan.
He was active in the party since the 1990 people’s movement. Upadhyaya is survived by his wife, three sons and two daughters.
The family members are preparing for his cremation, according to Khan.
