Kathmandu, September 6
The government has instructed Nepali missions abroad to operate separate bank accounts for those wishing to contribute to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, missions have been told to use other accounts since it is not possible to send contributions directly to the fund, and doing so would create complications where transactions exceed a set limit.
“As per existing rules, missions have been instructed to use their various existing accounts or open new ones. Relief funds will be collected through these accounts from the Nepali diaspora, foreign nationals, local organisations, and community groups,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in its daily press bulletin.
Missions will be required to maintain a daily record of funds collected in the prescribed format. The collected amount must be transferred each month to the designated relief account. Until now, the government had arranged for contributions to be deposited directly into the Disaster Relief Fund’s account.
The ministry and Nepali missions abroad have also informed that they are working in close coordination with all friendly nations to try to keep travel advisories limited only to the specific areas affected by the floods.
“It is also being clearly highlighted that other parts of the country remain open and safe for travel and tourism,” the ministry said.
