Sudurpaschim Royals have appointed former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq as head coach for the third season of the Nepal Premier League (NPL). He replaces Jagat Tamata, who coached the team in the first two seasons.
Misbah played 75 Tests, 162 ODIs and 39 T20Is for Pakistan. He scored 5,222 runs in Tests, including 10 centuries and 39 fifties, with a highest score of 161. In ODIs, he made 5,122 runs (highest score 96), and in T20Is, 788 runs (highest score 87).
As Test captain, he led Pakistan in 56 matches and won 26. Under him, Pakistan reached the top of the ICC Test rankings for the first time in 2016.
Misbah retired from limited-overs cricket after the 2015 World Cup and from Tests in 2017. He later moved into coaching and served as Pakistan’s men’s head coach and chief selector from 2019 to 2021.
Sudurpaschim Royals finished top of the league stage in both previous NPL seasons and reached the final each time, but lost the title match.
