Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Ram Nath Adhikari, has resigned from his post. He stepped down expressing outrage over the crackdown during yesterday’s protest organized by Gen Z.
He said that those with whom cooperation was needed for nation-building were instead treated as if in a war, and that accountability must be sought.
“It is unbearable for me to remain in power without seeking accountability for this. After the killing and suppression of young children, plunging the nation into mourning, continuing in government would go against my conscience, my morality, and the values taught by my party,” he writes in his Facebook handle. “Feeling guilty about the involment to my ministerial responsibility, I tender my resignation, offering a moral apology and strongly objecting to this undemocratic step taken by the government.”
He further wrote that instead of recognizing citizens’ natural right in a democracy to ask questions and to protest peacefully, the government responded with widespread suppression and killings.
