Minister hopeful of all local units’ access to commercial banks in next 5 months

Yuba Raj Khatiwada

Kathmandu, February 6

Minister for Finance Yuba Raj Khatiwada says the government will make sure that all 753 local units of the country will have at least one commercial bank by the end of current fiscal year that is mid-July.

The government had set a deadline of mid-July last for the banks to reach the local levels. However, 50 locals units still lack the access, according to the Minister.

Responding to lawmakers’ questions during a meeting of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, the Minister said 30 of these local units will have at least one bank within next two months.

Khatiwada blamed lack of physical infrastructures including safe buildings and roads for the government’s failure to meet the target.

He said he was confident that the revised deadline would not be missed as the construction works were underway at various places.
