Kathmandu, October 30

The government has revised its plan for action about the completion of the ambitious Melamchi Water Supply Project that intends to supply drinking water from the Melamchi river in Sindhupalchok district to the Kathmandu valley.

As per the new plan, the project will deliver water to Kathmandu by April 15, 2021.

The project directorate and the contractors recently submitted the revised plan to the Office of the Prime Minister recently.

It has been over two decades since the project began. Its deadline has been extended almost every year since then.

Just in February, Water Supply Minister Bina Magar had announced that the project would be complete by mid-July this year. Now, the project has cited the Covid-19 crisis as the factor for delay.
