National Sports Council (NSC) member secretary Ram Charitra Mehta will not be travelling to Japan for the 20th Asian Games.
Mehta had earlier been slated to go to Japan as “chef de mission.” However, he said he decided against attending because he needs to move forward with preparations for the National Games.
Speaking to Onlinekhabar, he explained that spending 15–20 days in Japan would delay the National Games, since work on the event cannot proceed properly without the member secretary present. So he decided to skip the Asian Games rather than risk the National Games falling behind schedule.
Mehta said a decision on who will be sent as chef de mission instead is still pending.
