The Manaslu Conservation Area Project (MCAP), which was entrusted with the responsibility of preserving and managing the Manaslu area in northern Gorkha, has been given an extension after almost three and a half years of confusion.

The Project’s term ended in 2019, and there was a period of uncertainty before the government eventually decided to renew its term for an additional five years.

The period has been extended for the next five years. MCAP Chief Santosh Sherchan said,

“There has been a problem due to confusion over whether the office will remain or not as the decision to extend the deadline has not been taken since June 2019,” said MCAP Chief Santosh Sherchan.

The cabinet meeting on December 21, 2023, however, decided to extend the term of the Project till mid-July 2028.

“Now we can prepare an action plan and work accordingly,” Sherchan said.

MCAP has been responsible for the conservation, promotion, promotion and management of the Manaslu area since 1997.
