Nepali students to present research on infertility care at Oxford University’s Map The System

Map the System

Kathmandu, May 28

A team of Nepali students have been invited by the University of Oxford to present their research at the ‘Map The System‘, a global competition of the Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship.

The team of students from King’s College, Prakriti Dhakal, Prakriti Joshi, Kamala Lama and Bikash Dangal, studied system dynamics, stakeholder ecosystem, and intervention mechanisms surrounding the topic of infertility care.

The students’ research aligns with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being and aims to draw attention to the importance of infertility care services and how they could contribute to the reduction of health inequalities in Nepal.

The team will not only represent Nepal but the whole of South Asia as they are the only team in the top 16 from the region.

The competition includes participation from 61 universities worldwide, including prestigious institutions like the University of Oxford, University College London (UCL), the University of Leeds, and others.

Infertility has been considered a social taboo for a long time in Nepali society and the dialogues around it are minimum.

During their research, the team mapped three key factors impacting the inequity in the system which revolves around the lack of affordability, lack of availability, and lack of awareness.

The team will present their in-depth findings on it and the possible interventions around it at the University of Oxford this July.
