A poem titled Chhute Pachhi Desh has won first place in a national poetry competition held in Bhimphedi Rural Municipality.
The poem, presented by Hem Prakash Manjil of Guthichaur Rural Municipality-4 in Jumla, took first place and won a cash prize of Rs 50,000.
The national poetry competition was organised by Bhimphedi Rural Municipality to mark the memorial day of writer Tulsi Thapa, and featured poems touching on patriotism, contemporary society, and human sentiment.
Suman Ghimire of Lalbandi Municipality-4 in Sarlahi took second place with his poem Ma Desh Kasari Banaun?, winning Rs 30,000.
Yograj Paudel of Arjundhara Municipality-5 in Jhapa placed third with Matrigatha, winning Rs 20,000.
Chetana Sharma of Kathmandu’s poem Rato Canvas and Dhiraj Nath of Bhimdatta Municipality-18 in Kanchanpur’s poem Bagaicha received consolation prizes of Rs 10,000 each. Bhimphedi Rural Municipality Chairperson Hidam Lama distributed the prizes.
On the same occasion, a half-length statue of writer Tulsi Thapa was unveiled at Shree Krishna Secondary School in Bhimphedi Rural Municipality-2, Bhainse.
The program was chaired by Ganesh Lama, the first person from Makwanpur to earn a PhD, and was attended by writer Shrawan Mukarung and former District Development Committee chairperson Rameshwar Rana, among others.
