Police have arrested a man on charges of removing flesh and bones from a body that was about to be cremated at Pashupati Aryaghat.
According to police, the suspect is a Brahmin who works at the Aryaghat cremation site. He has been taken into custody at the Gaushala Police Circle for investigation, Kathmandu District Police Office spokesperson and SP Kuldeep Chand confirmed.
The family of the deceased, identified as Ram Shahi of Banepa Municipality–9 in Kavre district, accused the cremation worker of extracting flesh and bones from the body. They filed a complaint with police, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
An investigation into the incident has begun. While the family claims the items were sold, police said it is not yet clear who may have purchased them or at what price, and no conclusive evidence has been found to substantiate the allegations.
