Janakpur, September 16
Tahir Rain, the main accused in a case involving the alleged abduction, 19-day captivity and rape of a minor in two hotels in Janakpur, has been sent to prison pending trial.
The Dhanusha District Court on September 11 ordered 23-year-old Rain to be remanded in custody for trial, according to the District Police Office, Dhanusha.
Rain had fled to Qatar after the incident and was arrested through Interpol. He was brought back to Nepal on August 10.
Meanwhile, Yakub Kawari, ward chair of Dhanauji Rural Municipality-5, who is accused of pressuring the survivor’s family to settle the case for Rs 2 million, has been released on Rs 100,000 bail.
The Dhanusha District Court ordered his release on bail on Monday. Police said Kawari was released after depositing the amount.
Kawari was arrested by Dhanusha police last Friday based on the survivor’s statement.
Two cases filed in Dhanusha District Court
The case concerns a 16-year-old girl from Dhanauji Rural Municipality who was allegedly abducted from her home on July 1, 2025, taken to Janakpur, and held captive in hotels for 19 days, where she was allegedly raped.
Two police officers are also among those accused in the case.
Two separate cases have been filed at the Dhanusha District Court in connection with the incident, involving around a dozen accused, including the two police officers. Most of the accused remain at large.
One case concerns alleged human trafficking, abduction and unlawful confinement, while the other relates to the alleged rape of the girl.
According to the case file, Rain, who ran a shop near the survivor’s home, allegedly abducted her on April 11, 2025, when her mother had gone to the fields, after luring her with a promise of marriage.
She was allegedly brought to Janakpur, where Rain and others are accused of sexually assaulting her and trafficking her between hotels, including allegedly arranging for customers to pay to sexually abuse her. The girl later escaped.
The survivor filed a complaint at the District Police Office, Dhanusha, on May 17, 2025. However, the complaint was allegedly not acted upon in time, allowing Rain to flee abroad.
Second abduction
The survivor was allegedly abducted again on July 1, 2025, at around 4am.
According to her complaint, she had stepped outside her home to tie up goats when three people, including Anjali Mahar, allegedly arrived in a vehicle, blindfolded her with a piece of cloth and abducted her.
She was allegedly held at Hotel CFC in Pidari Chowk, Janakpur, for two days before being taken to Madhesh Province Guest House in Murli Chowk, where she was allegedly confined for another 17 days.
The case file alleges that the accused, including hotel operators, raped the girl and also took money from customers to facilitate her sexual abuse.
The girl has remained in a safe house since the incident due to security concerns and continued pressure surrounding the case.
