Arghakhanchi, October 30
Lumbini Province Chief Minister Chet Narayan Acharya has said effective coordination and preparedness among all three tiers of government and concerned agencies are essential for disaster risk reduction and management.
Speaking at an interaction and learning-sharing programme with stakeholders on disaster risk reduction and management held in Arghakhanchi on Friday, he said the government should prioritise investment in disaster management and concerned agencies must fulfil their responsibilities.
He stressed the need to prioritise preparedness, coordination and accountability to minimise human casualties and property damage caused by disasters.
Acharya said legal, institutional and practical reforms were necessary to ensure the effective implementation of disaster management plans.
Directing authorities to coordinate with the concerned local governments while implementing disaster management plans, Acharya said arrangements had been made for the District Coordination Committee and local governments to monitor projects before their completion and settlement.
Noting that laws had been amended to make the monitoring system more effective, he said activities carried out without coordination could not deliver the expected results.
