Local election now possible only in May: Chief Commissioner Yadav

Kathmandu, January 17

Nepal’s chief election commissioner says local elections are possible in the third week of May only if required laws are ready by January end.

Chief Election Commissioner, Ayodhi Prasad Yadav, who was speaking at a programme in the capital said, it would not be possible to conduct election in March-April, as was announced by the government earlier.

Yadav said he would recommend the government to hold elections in phases. “If we start elections on the second week of May, we can finish by the third week of May,” he said.

He added the commission was ready to conduct elections for federal Parliament if the parties reached an agreement.
