Kathmandu, November 8
Leo, a Nepal Police dog deployed in search and rescue operations during the Bhotekoshi flood in August, has been named the best canine in the force.
Leo outperformed police dogs from across the country. On Kukur Tihar, the second day of Tihar, he was awarded a medal at a programme held at the Nepal Police Canine Office.
DIG Om Rana of the Department of Criminal Investigation presented the medal. Leo had been deployed for about a month in search and rescue efforts after the Bhotekoshi flood struck on August 26.
During that time, he located the bodies of several victims, as well as body parts. A Labrador, Leo, has been assisting police in search and rescue work since 2021.
