Landslips swamp eight houses in Baitadi VDC, put 45 more in peril

Landslides resulting from incessant rains have damaged three houses in Dandakhali, Talladehi VDC-8, Baitadi district, causing loss of Rs 18 lakh, apart from putting 45 more houses at high risk, police said.

The houses belong to Janaki Sarki, Kaile Sarki and Mane Sarki, according to police.

In the disaster, grains and clothes worth seven lakh rupees were destroyed when landslides swamped the four-room house of Janaki, while Kaile incurred loss of around five lakh rupees when his eight-room house got buried.

At the same place, Mane Sarki suffered losses amounting to six lakh rupees when his four-room house got buried.

Police said they managed to shift cattle and some goods from the sheds and houses with help from locals, thereby managing to avert further losses.

In Dandakhali, landslides have put an additional 45 houses at high risk, Hari Om Khadka, inspector at Baitadi district police office, said.

The displaced people, according to police, are taking refuge at relatives’ places. There have been no human casualties in landslides so far this year.
