A new song, Bahun Bajey Kina Kaseko, by Khem Century, released on YouTube three weeks ago, has drawn controversy. After a complaint alleging the song demeans the Brahmin community, the Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police has now summoned the lyricist and composer, Century, along with the complainant, for discussions.
Cyber Bureau spokesperson and information officer Dilip Kumar Giri said both sides were called in for discussion on Tuesday, and discussions continued on Wednesday as well.
Hindu activist Sagar Thapa, among others, filed the complaint with the bureau. Since Tuesday’s discussion ended without a conclusion, the bureau called both sides in again on Wednesday.
“This dispute should be settled today, since the song contains words that directly attack the community,” Information Officer Giri said.
Giri said the Hindu activists’ objection centres on a specific line in the song referencing the eating of pork. The complainant has demanded the song be taken down immediately.
